Summer EBT Benefits

2024 Summer EBT Benefits at District 287

During the summer of 2024, Minnesota will introduce Summer EBT, a fresh initiative offering grocery benefits. This program will furnish families with $120 per eligible student aiding them in purchasing groceries when school is not in session.

Benefits of Summer EBT:

  • Helps parents and caregivers buy healthy foods for their children.
  • Gives families the flexibility to select foods that fit their culture and lifestyle.
  • Improves food security and diet quality for participating children.

Eligibility:

Students are eligible for the Summer 2024 EBT program if:

  • The household participates in SNAP, MFIP, FDPIR, Tribal TANF, Medicaid, and/or Foster Care.     OR
  • The student attends a school that participates in the National School Breakfast or Lunch program and has qualified for free or reduced-priced meals, by submitting a qualifying Application for Educational Benefits this school year or before August 31, 2024.

If you have not yet submitted an application for educational benefits this school year, you can apply online or submit a paper application to your school. Please note that an application for your student must be submitted to Intermediate District 287. Applications submitted to your home district are not shared with district 287, unless specifically requested by the student’s parent/guardian. If you have questions about your student’s free or reduced priced meal eligibility, please contact foodservice@district287.org or 763-550-7136.

In order to receive your Summer EBT benefits it is important to ensure that your students legal parent/guardian and correct address are on file with your students school.

If your student is eligible, but you would like to opt out of receiving the Summer EBT benefits please complete the Summer EBT Opt Out Form.

How Summer EBT Works:

If your student is eligible through either of the two eligibility criteria listed above, then there is nothing else you need to do. The benefits will be provided on a separate EBT card that is mailed to you. Families will receive $120 per eligible child to be used at authorized retailers to purchase EBT qualifying foods. Visit the MDE Summer EBT website to learn more.

Children and teens need healthy food year-round to play, grow, and learn. Summer EBT will help families stretch their grocery budget during the summer and provide their children with the nutrition they need to thrive.
