District 287 Superintendent Search

Given Superintendent Lewandowski’s retirement at the end of the 2021-22 school year, the School Board is beginning the search for a new Superintendent. The early notice gives the District ample time for an effective transition. While we are very early on in the process, it’s our goal to keep the District 287 community informed about the search process each step of the way.

Message from Board Chair Regina Neville

Dear District 287 Community,

As Sandy transitions to retirement at the end of the next school year, I can sincerely say that we have had the “best of the best” and she will be greatly missed. Sandy is a courageous leader and a tireless advocate for our students. She embraces the critical need to strive for racial equity and to become a trauma-sensitive school district. Intermediate District 287 has grown because of her genuine care for our students, her steady leadership, and her development of an extraordinary team of educators.

You may already know some of Sandy’s career highlights, like receiving the 2020 Kay E. Jacobs Memorial Award from the Minnesota Association of School Administrators (MASA) and being named the 2015 Minnesota Superintendent of the Year. I think we can all agree that her greatest achievement of all is the lasting impact on students’ lives.

While Sandy’s retirement is over a full school year away, the School Board will begin our process to search for and hire a new Superintendent this spring, giving us ample time for an effective transition. As the School Board discusses the transition, we will uphold these guiding principles:

  • Meeting the needs of our students
  • Ensuring that racial equity is central to the process
  • Inviting all stakeholders to have a voice in the process

We acknowledge there will be interest and questions as we begin our work. As plans and timelines are set over the next few months, we will continue to communicate with all those in the District 287 community. We also invite you to visit the District 287 website where updates will be provided throughout the process.

Please join me in congratulating Sandy on her extraordinary legacy of leadership to District 287.

Regina Neville
Board Chair, Intermediate District 287
