Privacy & Opt Out Options

You have the right to decide how your student’s information is shared. If you want to keep your child’s information private for things like the school directory, military recruitment, surveys, or state testing, please fill out the opt-out forms below. Be sure to let your school’s main office know about your choices, too.

Lockdown Drills

Lockdown drills are scheduled at various times throughout the school year. These drills involve locking classroom doors, turning off lights, and remaining silent. In accordance with the new legislation, families/caregivers now have the right to opt their student out of participating in these drills. Students, whether they are opted out or not, will be provided with age-appropriate information about school safety procedures. To opt out of lockdown drills, please complete the Intermediate District 287 Parent-Student Opt-out for Lockdown Drills 2025-26 form and contact the building/program administration.

Military Recruitment

Consistent with state law, Intermediate District 287 shall release to military recruiting officers the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of students in grades 11 and 12 within 60 days after the date of the request, except where parents or students object to this release of information. To prevent the release of any or all of this information, eligible students and parents or guardians must complete the military recruitment opt out form and contact administration within two weeks of the student’s enrollment date or by August 31, immediately before the start of the student’s 11th or 12th grade year.

Student Surveys

Student surveys may be conducted as determined necessary by Intermediate District 287. Surveys, analyses, and evaluations conducted as part of any program funded through the U.S. Department of Education must comply with 20 United States Code section 1232h. To opt out of any surveys, please complete the student survey opt out form and contact the building/program administration.

Testing

Intermediate District 287 participates in state required testing, including the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) and the Minnesota Test of Academic Skills (MTAS) during the spring of each year. To opt out of state testing, please complete the Intermediate District 287 Parent-Student Opt-out for MCA/MTAS 2025-26 form and contact the building/program administration.
