Spring Break Travel Reminder

We understand that spring break is a time when some staff and families participate in local, domestic, or international travel. Unfortunately, the pandemic has changed travel plans for many in our school district community. While the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends no travel at this time, we understand the weeks following spring break may still carry a heightened risk for potential exposures.

We are sharing the CDC guidance on domestic and international travel during COVID-19, stating they recommend no travel at this time, given that it increases the chance of getting and spreading COVID-19. CDC has also published a recommendation for after you travel.

While District 287 does not enforce any specific travel guidance, we recommend that employees follow all CDC’s post-travel recommendations.

With all that in mind, your presence at school is critical to ensure continued educational opportunities for our students, and your travel is at your own risk. If a quarantine is necessary and working remotely is not feasible, staff may use their own paid leave. The leave options provided for within state or federal law (e.g., FMLA, ADA), collective bargaining agreements, and employment guides still apply and should be followed accordingly.

We also want to reemphasize all prevention measures, including maintaining 6 feet of physical distance from others whenever possible, masking consistently, staying home when sick, seeking testing as appropriate, hand hygiene, and following quarantine guidance.
