Welcome to the Ann Bremer Education Center, home of the Phoenix. We often call our school ABEC.

We believe that all people have intrinsic value and have the capacity to contribute to society. We take pride in supporting our students in building their independence and discovering their full potential. We focus on building the student’s academic, vocational and independent living skills.

Our goal is to serve the whole student. We meet students where they are at and are committed to creating a safe and nurturing school where students thrive.

Ann Bremer Education Center Programs

Ann Bremer Education Center serves high school students and young adults ages 14-22 with unique needs in a variety of programs.

Transition Program

Special Education Programs

Our high school programs serve students in grades 9-12. Students work on a variety of skills including core content areas with an emphasis on literacy, skills training, interdependence, communication, emotional regulation. Students will also engage in vocational career post secondary education options.

How to Enroll

Intermediate District 287’s special education programs require a referral from one of our member school districts.

Transition Program

Our Transition programs support students who have attended a high school special education program and wish to go on to obtain an Individual Education Plan driven-diploma or to advance their skills in education and training, employment, and independent living.

Makerspace

From very low tech (crayons and play-doh) to very high tech (coding, robotics, and 3D printing) students at ABEC participate in hands-on learning and Community Outreach in the Makerspace. Given the opportunity to express creativity and problem solving through individual projects, group activities, ALL school projects, and projects that serve our community (both in and out of school), students learn empathy, self-confidence and relationship building, and maintaining skills (SEL).

Music Exploration

Students will participate in musical opportunities ranging from music playing, listening and analysis, learning about and experiencing various musical genres/styles/periods throughout history, group music playing with various percussion instruments, receiving instruction in and exploring a variety of instruments based on personal interests while working to build skills in the areas of self awareness, self expression, development and integration of visual, auditory, and tactile sensory stimuli, interpersonal skills, enhancing both expressive and receptive communication and strengthening executive functioning skills such as organization, problem solving, reasoning and comprehension as well as motor development and impulse control.
