Occupational Therapy

School-based occupational therapy (OT) is provided to students who require OT as part of their special educational program at NEC.

OT can participate with implementation of an IEP objective, including:

  • Strategies Development
  • Techniques Demonstration
  • Specialized Materials Provision
  • Equipment & Environment Adaptation
  • Educational Due Process: Student evaluations (initial, 3 year, transition, work, exit), team meetings, child study, assessment shares

OT can address concerns in the areas of:

  • Self-Regulation
  • Functional Fine Motor Concerns
  • Written Production (handwriting, keyboarding, etc.)
  • Self-Care
  • Organizational Strategies
  • Environmental Adaptations
  • Equipment / Assistive Technology
  • Positioning
  • Education/Training: families, staff, students, caregivers
  • Leisure skills
