Assistive Technology Services
AT services can include specialized evaluation utilizing the SETT framework to determine student need as part of his/her special education. The SETT Framework is a guideline for gathering data in order to make effective assistive technology decisions. The SETT Framework considers first, the STUDENT, the ENVIRONMENT(S) and the TASKS required for active participation in the activities of the environment, and finally, the system of TOOLS needed for the student to address the tasks.
Some students also require a burst of direct service to train student and staff on the implementation of specialized equipment/software with the expectation that the student and daily support/educational staff quickly take over with the daily service delivery.
AT services at NEC also include general training and instruction to staff and students as necessary surrounding the many available technologies to assist students with written language, reading, math, organization, production, access control, and rec/leisure.
Some of the specialized technology materials available at NEC include: iPads, iPods, Smart Boards, PC workstations, Alphasmarts, Internet, Clicker 5, Type 2 Learn, Co:Writer, Kidspiration, Photoshop, Voice Recognition, Adapted Keyboards, Switch Controls and more.
