Posted 10/03/2014 01:00PM

Each year, the flu season is unpredictable. But according to the National Foundation of Infectious Diseases, 5 to 20% of us will get the flu this year.

Thanks to the researchers who have studied the flu viruses for more than 100 years, the Centers for Disease Control has prepared some tips.
• Get a flu shot because the flu vaccine is the first and most important step in protecting against flu viruses. District 287 has scheduled six flu shot clinics for our employees and their families. See the dates, locations and other information.

During flu season, it is wise to follow simple personal measures such as
• Wash your hands often;
• Practice flu etiquette by covering your nose and mouth when you are ill;
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth; and
• Stay home from school, work and other activities for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone.
Also available are the F.A.C.T.S. about the Flu. This document has a list of of signs and symptoms to help you determine if you have the flu or a cold.
