Evidence-based Practices Manual - Executive Summary

This Evidence-based Practices Manual (PDF) is a living work that resulted from a review of the research conducted by members of the Intermediate District 287 Social Emotional Task Force, which has functioned as a group since January 2006. The manual is intended to be a reference guide to inform staff members about contemporary scientific and action research that can guide us to best-practices.

Like any fluid document, there will be modifications and updates as we learn more about social emotional learning and its relevance to the lives of our students. We invite comments and suggested modifications, as long as there are current (within the last 5 years) citations in the literature to support such changes and additions.

We hope that you will read and reflect on the material in this manual. Due to the diversity of our student body, we have student groups for whom some of these strategies will not be effective. In such cases, we invite you to contribute interventions that you have found to be useful with students (e.g. multiple severe disabilities) who are not usually represented in educational or social emotional research. Thanks for taking an interest in this manual. We hope that it will help you to support the social and emotional development of the students you serve.
