Culinary Arts*

This course is intended to introduce students to a variety of careers in the food service industry. Students will experience a number of career areas through both technical and hands-on skills. 

Areas of study include:

  • Safety and sanitation
  • Bakery production
  • Pantry production
  • Preparation of stocks, sauces, and soups
  • Appetizers, canapes, hors d'oeuvres

*A student lab fee is required. 

Cooking for Independent Living*

Location: EPC
Time: 8:00 AM

(Note: No Hennepin Technical College articulated credit is available for this course.)

This course introduces the student to basic food preparation skills for use in the home setting as well as on the job. The student will learn to prepare balanced meals with emphasis on nutrition and economy. This course is designed for students who are developing transition skills. 

Areas of study include:

  • Menu planning
  • Nutrition
  • Sanitation and safety
  • Food preparation skills
  • Knife skills

*A uniform fee is required.

Food Service Assistant/Intro to Cooking (Fall or Spring semester only)*

Location: EPC
Time: 12:10 PM

(No Hennepin Technical College articulated credit is available for this course.)

Students will aquire a basic knowledge of the skills required to perform a variety of tasks in a particular area of food service through hands-on learning. Skill development will meet entry level industry standards.

Area of study include:

  • Food sanition and safety
  • Following recipe procedures
  • Weighing and measuring
  • Following verbal and written directions
  • Preparation and presentation of foods

*A lab fee for a chef's hat is required.
