2010 Policy Review, Introduction and Adoption
- PURPOSE
The purpose of this procedure is to delineate a process for Board policymaking. - PROCESS
The school board enacted an AD HOC Policy Committee to discuss the development and review of District policies.- Using the Equity Decision Making process, the Superintendent and administration will identify key audiences that are impacted by the policy and convene subgroups of each audience to provide input on development and/or revisions.
- The Superintendent and administration will conduct subgroup meetings using guidelines and protocols outlined in the Equity Decision Making process.
- The subgroups will review the equity audit recommendations, MSBA model policies, legislative or statutory updates, District 287 Bylaws, and other relevant resources.
- The Superintendent and administration will provide a written summary of the subgroups work and provide a summary of equity impact as articulated by the subgroup members.
- Administration will develop the draft policy and a cover sheet outlining the recommended changes and the equity summary of impact.

- The AD HOC Policy Committee will review the proposed Policy with the cover sheet.
- The AD HOC Policy Committee will also use an Equity Review Protocol.
- Upon the AD HOC committee approval, the policy would be placed on a board agenda.
- BOARD ADOPTION STEPS

The Board shall give notice of proposed policy changes or adoption of new policies by placing the item on the agenda of two Board meetings, except as provided in Parts IV and V. - Adoption
Policies and policy revisions introduced at a Board meeting shall not be adopted until a subsequent meeting of the Board. At the first meeting, the policy proposal shall be presented for a first reading and discussion, and at the second meeting, the proposal shall be presented for a second reading, discussion, and vote. Board members may propose amendments to policy proposals at either of the two readings. - Effective Date
A policy is effective upon adoption by a majority vote of a quorum of the Board at a regular meeting.

- PROCEDURE FOR PROPOSING A NEW POLICY
- Policies may be proposed by a School Board member, employee, student or resident of the school district.
- Proposed policies or ideas shall be submitted to the Superintendent via a link on Intermediate District 287 About Us/Policies page.
- The Superintendent will bring proposed policies to the School Board Ad Hoc Policy Committee for consideration.
