Jon Fila has moved on to become a Semi-Finalist (Top 25) for 2022’s Teacher of the Year Award!

The Intermediate District 287 community is thrilled that Jon Fila has moved on to become a semi-finalist candidate for the 2022 Education Minnesota Teacher of the Year Award.

This year, they received hundreds of nominations. Selecting 25 semifinalists was especially challenging this year for the selection panel, which is made up of nearly two dozen education, community, and business leaders.

To celebrate this great honor, Jon has been invited to the 58th annual Minnesota Teacher of the Year recognition banquet. At that time, all of this year’s candidates will be honored and they will announce the 2022 Minnesota Teacher of the Year.

I am humbled by the recognition. This award process has been a reminder of just how important it is to be flexible for our learners. By creating settings and instructional content that can meet the needs of individuals, we allow them a space to grow and find connections where they might have otherwise been told no.” – Jon Fila

Superintendent Lewandowski said, As an educational leader who is constantly innovating, Jon is known for his relentless pursuit to positively impact students through technology and leading our top academic coaches to success.” Jon helped NSO become the program that it is today through his work on our learning management system and integration with our work with Open Educational Resources. In addition, he worked with district leaders to create the Minnesota Partnership for Collaborative Curriculum, which led to the development of 40 courses shared with over 200 school districts in the state.

Jon has worked in various positions at Intermediate District 287 for the past 11 years. In his current role, he teaches courses as an instructor for Northern Star Online. He has had incredible experiences with exceptional students over the last two years during the pandemic’s uncertainty.

We are incredibly proud of Jon at Intermediate District 287 and Minnesota would also be incredibly proud if he were selected as the Minnesota Teacher of the Year. Congratulations Jon!
