Student interns reflect on "Grow Your Own" Program

Brent Dysart and DeeAras

Inspired by successful initiatives at Minneapolis and Saint Paul Public Schools, our Equity and Inclusion Department launched an exciting "Grow Your Own" student internship program over Extended School Year.

This program offered students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in education. Interns, who were paid like Educational Support Professionals (ESPs), began their journey with a two-day orientation then worked closely with teacher mentors to support classrooms.

This summer, we had 6 incredible interns at North Education Center and South Education Center. Notably, 100% of these students identified as students of color.

We're so proud of our interns and their dedication in supporting our schools and making a difference.
