Masks will be required beginning Monday, May 9 through the end of the school year.

Dear 287 Families,

Given an increase in positive cases at 287 sites and guidance from epidemiologists for our medically vulnerable population, masks will be required beginning Monday, May 9 through the end of the school year.

We are hopeful that the decision to require masks for the remainder of the school year will help to slow the spread of COVID-19 and to ensure that we have sufficient staffing to keep schools open.

As we approach the final month of the school year, please review our COVID-19 safety practices, especially given an increase in positive cases in recent weeks.

Key Safety Measures

  • Students and staff stay home when sick – get tested!
  • At-home rapid test available for symptomatic staff and students
  • Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 needs to isolate for 10 days (return to work/school on day 11)
  • PPE, including surgical masks, and Kn95 masks when available, are easily accessible by staff. Additional PPE such as goggles and gowns are available as needed/requested.
  • Social distancing of 3-6 feet whenever possible
  • Regular handwashing and sanitation
  • Enhanced air filtration

Important Reminders

  • Test first! Do not send your student to school if they are sick. There are incidents of students coming to school sick and then finding out after the fact that it was COVID-19. This potentially spreads the virus to our vulnerable population of students. Please do not send your student to school when they are sick.
  • Testing: Please contact your school’s nurse for your student to be issued an at-home test or you can access free community testing.
  • Tested positive? If your student tests positive, notify your school nurse immediately. The isolation period for positive COVID-19 cases is 10 days (return to school on day 11).
  • Notification of positive cases: We will continue to notify families if there is a positive case at the school, or at least once per week if there are multiple cases. The District 287 COVID-19 Dashboard is updated at least weekly, so our staff and families are aware of the current cases in our District.
  • Vaccinations: We highly encourage our students, staff, families, and all members of our community who are eligible, to get the COVID-19 vaccine to keep everyone as safe as possible. Getting vaccinated, or not, is a personal choice that will be respected.
  • Quarantine: There is no quarantine requirement for people potentially exposed to COVID-19. We recommend that you get tested 3-5 days after potential exposure.

We invite you to review our COVID-19 Prevention Procedures.
