Serving meals in the 2020-21 school year

We are excited to serve meals to students this school year, PLUS while we had been preparing for our normal meals model, we just received word that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is allowing us to serve free breakfast and lunch to anyone in our school communities, 18 and under until December 31, 2020, or when budget funds run out. Children do not need to be enrolled in Intermediate District 287 to participate. If your child is over 18 and enrolled in a program at one of our district schools, they also qualify for free meals. Read on for additional information on how to receive these free meals for your child during connected and hybrid learning.

For students continuing in connected learning, we will have 5-day meal bundles including breakfast and lunch, available for pick up each Friday at four of our schools. Meals must be pre ordered one week ahead on the Free Meals Order Sign Up form.

If your child will begin hybrid learning the week of September 28th, only order meals on the Free Meals Order Sign up form, if they are assigned to in person learning on Wed/Thurs(B days) and need meals for September 28th and 29th. A 2 day meal pack can be picked up on Friday, September 25th for these students.

Additional Meal Information for Hybrid Learning:
Once students begin hybrid learning, they will receive free breakfast and lunch on the days they are at school and will be sent home with a 3 day pack of meals for the days they are not at school. No meal orders are required for hybrid learning; all students will receive free meals. If you do not want your child to receive free meals during hybrid learning, you may opt out by informing your student’s teacher. Otherwise all students will be encouraged to participate in these meals.

If your child is not enrolled in an Intermediate District 287 school, you may still participate in our free distance learning meals by filling out the Free Meals Order Sign Up form. However, please note that per USDA regulation, children are only allowed 1 free breakfast and lunch daily – so if your child is receiving free meals from their enrolled school or district we are unable to provide them with additional free meals.

Now more than ever, it is so important that all of our families apply for Educational Benefits, whether you think you qualify or not. Our ability to serve free meals to all is set to expire on December 31, 2020, or sooner, depending on government funding. Students who qualify for educational benefits will continue to access free breakfast and lunch once these free meals expire. These same educational benefits also provide critical funding for our schools and district. We encourage all families to apply for educational benefits at

  • A new application is needed per family each year.
  • The income thresholds are higher than in some programs, so many families are surprised to find they DO qualify.

We look forward to serving your students! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us at 763-550-7136 or
