Collaborative Problem Solving

Here’s How SECA Solves Problems

Collaborative Problem Solving: Plan B Conversations

A Plan B conversation is a tool used to establish a positive relationship between students and staff, where the student’s voice and concerns are heard!

Plan B Conversation

1) Gathering Information Step

“WHAT’S UP?”

- Student tells adult why problem is happening.

2) Define the Problem Step

“HERE’S THE THING. . . . . . . . . . “ or “HERE’S THE DEAL”.

- The adult shares their concern about how the problem is
affecting the student and others in the classroom.

3) Invitation Step

“I WONDER IF THERE’S A WAY . . . . . . . .”

- Student concern + adult concern = new solution

Once the solution is identified the student and the adult must agree that the solution is doable and durable.

4) Final Step

Agreed upon solution is tried.
