Edgewood Education Center
Welcome to the Edgewood Education Center. Our mission is to provide a safe and secure, student focused learning community where staff and students are empowered to become life-long learners working towards student independence.
Congrats, Rosie Palan, 287's Above & Beyond Winner! Rosie Palan is a School Psychologist who has served Edgewood students for the past three years. She’s considered the “go-to” person for struggling students and has a special way of supporting, listening and encouraging them. Rosie is known for her poise, professionalism and problem-solving, and has taken on leadership opportunities to positively impact even more students.
She'll receive $500 to put towards a classroom or project of her choice.
Students from all program seek her out as a “go-to” when they are struggling.
Rosie is a preferred staff member for students who struggle. They appreciate her soft and gentle demeanor and find her listening skills to be calming. Students and staff alike recognize her problem solving skills.
Rosie is a person who is racially conscious and is aware of the challenges that we face to make education equitable for all students. She works well with our diverse populations and adds a cultural lens to her work. She recognizes inequities and works to use strategies that eliminate these barriers in her SEL instruction. Her ability to remain calm in the most contentious and unsafe situations allows for students to feel safe de-escalating with her. Students from all programs seek her out.
Rosie plays an important role in promoting Edgewood’s positive school climate and culture. She always implements the most current Social Emotional Learning strategies, including mindfulness and restorative practices. Rosie teaches SEL to students in the Explore middle school program.
She sees what needs to be done and makes sure it happens.
Rosie is the type of colleague that everyone wants on their team. She sees a challenge, steps up to the plate, and constantly seeks ways to bring solutions to the table. She is a natural leader and staff have quickly come to respect her and her work. After just one year as Edgewood’s school psychologist, she was promoted to the school's leadership team. She has demonstrated incredible poise, professionalism, teamwork, and problem solving. For example, last year, when Edgewood faced only having one administrator, Rosie quickly stepped up and took on many additional responsibilities. She became the testing coordinator, became a district representative for Edgewood, and helped a team problem solve teaming issues, among many others.
Rosie is also a member of Edgewood’s leadership team and school improvement team, the district wide due process committee, Strategy 1 Implementation Team, and attends the AP/PF leadership district wide meetings for Edgewood.
