More than 700 students competed in Saturday’s Minnesota Destination Imagination Tournament to determine who is going onto Globals Finals next month.
District 287 coordinates the entire MN DI Program each year. But the regional and state tournaments are each supported by more than 250 volunteers including those who are appraising, scoring, registering teams and attending to parking lots. This year's state tournament was held at the combined campus of Jackson Middle School, Champlin-Brooklyn Park Academy and Champlin Park High School.
The 151 teams were comprised of three to eight students. (See slide show at left) Because these teams are encouraged to have focus but have fun, take creative risks, and use their science/math/engineering skills, the costumes, sets and props are some of the most interesting parts of the day.
In less than a month, 61 teams will be leaving for Globals Finals in Knoxville. Participants during the May 20-23 competition will represent 18 countries. Very exciting!
