We complement and support the efforts of our Member Districts by providing:

  • Assistive technology
  • Individualized instruction for children and young adults from birth to 21 years of age

The courses and educational opportunities we offer are the outgrowth of needs identified by our member districts. We are committed to the continuous development of highly-specialized programs that allow students with low-incidence impairments to receive a quality education and to achieve their full potential.

Intermediate District 287 Special Education Federal Setting IV Programs can only receive referrals from our Member Districts:

SITE-BASED SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

Emotional or Behavior Disorders (EBD)
District 287 has programs that serve students with Emotional and/or Behavioral Disabilities (EBD). These programs serve students K-21.  Program components include differentiated academic instructions, related services, community and experiential based instruction, career/technical education opportunities, transition skill development, and co-located mental health services.

Developmental Cognitive Disabilities (DCD)/Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
District 287 has programs that serve grades K-21 with Developmental Cognitive Disabilities and/or an Autism Spectrum Disorder. The students in these special education programs have been diagnosed with a variety of neurobiological disabilities that require a highly customized environment and a low student/staff ratio.

Transition
District 287 operates transition programs that serve 18-21 year old students with low incidence disabilities who have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).  Program components include academic or functional skills instruction, vocational skill development that includes post-secondary opportunities through the career-technical programs, community-based learning, and training in personal responsibility and self-advocacy. The Transition programs seek to provide services for young adults as they progress from an educational setting toward living and working as independently as possible in the community. The components of these programs are also available as services to districts that may want to purchase to enhance their own transition programs.

Itinerant Services and Vocational Training Services
District 287 provides Itinerant Services to students attending school in their local districts . A full continuum of special education services is provided to low incidence instructional and related service staff to student's ages 0-21 in a variety of educational settings. Vocational Training Services are also available to students as an enhancement to local district transition programs.
