Emotional or Behavioral Disorder (EBD) Programs

District 287 has seven programs that serve students with Emotional or Behavioral Disabilities (EBD).  These programs, which serve students ranging in age from 6-18, are in three locations.  Program components include differentiated academic instructions, related services, community and experiential based instruction, career/technical education opportunities, transition skill development and co-located mental health services.

Through Intermediate District 287 EBD programs, students will successfully master academic and life-skill goals through individualized interventions that lead to academic learning and successful life experiences. This will be achieved by incorporating a philosophy that creates an environment which facilitates belonging, mastery, independence, reintegration and generosity through a school-based experience.

These students typically have not been successful in less restrictive settings or are reintegrating to their home and community from a more restrictive setting such as a residential or correctional placement.  Students generally have a history of acting-out behavior, aggression, and/or limited social skills which impact relationships.  Sometimes aggressive behavior is coupled with depressed, withdrawn, anxious, or school avoidant behavior.  Many students also have mental health needs.  Most students are functioning in the low average to average range of intelligence but sometimes have learning disabilities and significant discrepancies in their academic achievement.
