Welcome to District 287 Gifted and Talented Education

Gifted Math Program

Intermediate District 287 Gifted Education Services through Northern Star Online is offering an advanced Math program as an option for elementary and middle school talented math students during the school year. The Gifted Math Program is a combination of online learning and classroom seminars. Testing for students in grades 4, 5, and 6 to qualify for the program will be held in the spring.

Competitions, Award Programs and Opportunities 

Many students thrive in a competitive atmosphere, and enjoy the competition process to sharpen skills and to "show what they know." These listings change often, so check back regularly. 

Reasearch and Engineering Aprenticeship (REAP) scholarship offered by the MN Academy of Science is newest offering. 

Destination ImagiNation

Destination ImagiNation is the world's largest creative problem solving program for kindergarten through college-aged learners. Teams of 2-7 members solve one of six different Challenges, which they perform in front of appraisers at tournaments. Our ultimate goal is to teach participants that through their creativity, teamwork, and perseverance, they can DIvelop creative solutions to complex problems completely on their own!

Fermi Off-the Wall Math League

Fermi Math is an internet-based math competition appropriate for enrichment, small group work, home-schoolers, and individuals wanting creative, technology-rich experiences. It is open to both 287 member districts and students world-wide. Divisions include Gr 1-2 (Family Math), Gr 3-4, and 5-7. Click above to learn more about this entertaining and enriching program. School rates and Archive only rates are available. FAQ (frequently asked questions) page may answer questions for you.  Fall Fermi begins September 30. A new flyer and registration materials will be posted soon.

Minnesota Scholars of Distinction

Minnesota Scholars of Distinction is a program of the Minnesota Department of Education's Academic Excellence division.  Applied Geography, Mathematics, Leadership, Science and Theater Arts are areas of competition. 

West Suburban Summer School (WSSS)

West Suburban Summer School is a program of Intermediate District 287's Gifted Education Services. The program serves identified Gifted and Talented in the thirteen member districts and beyond. Instructors design classes in their area of expertise to provide gifted students with unique experiences to challenge their abilities.
